Jean Zermatten

Former Juvenile Judge of the Canton of Valais (1980 - 2005), President of the International Association of Juvenile and Family Judges (AIMJF) (1994 to 1998), Founding Director of the International Institute of Human Rights Child (IDE) (1995 - 2014), Jean Zermatten was a member and then President of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (2005 - 2013). He has also taught at the University of Friborg for ten years (juvenile criminal law) and in many Hautes Écoles, on themes related to the rights of the child. In addition, he drafted the federal draft law on the criminal procedure applicable to minors and the inter-cantonal concordat on the criminal detention of minors (2005). He has published numerous articles on juvenile justice and the rights of the child.

Currently, he leads several projects related to children's rights for IDE, CIDE or national and international NGOs.
